Cohesion Project
DASH has been awarded funding by the Big Lottery Fund to deliver an Outreach project to raise local awareness amongst the BME communities of the services available to people with a range of disabilities. Within the first year of the project we have delivered disability awareness assemblies in 4 different local schools with our new volunteers Jack Summers, Rikin Shah along with DASH's own Taz Virdee. The feedback from the children, teachers and parents has has been wonderful and the individual schools are keen to have a repeat performance in the new academic year.
We also had a presence at the Hayes Mosque in September and October 2011, promoting disability issues within the Muslim Community.
At the local gypsy / traveller site we are continuing to give advice and guidance sessions, so far we have helped four traveller families directly.
We have started some new sporting activities which has brought together disabled people from all sections of our community. This includes cricket and football.
